Aldi to use BRCGS Professional to develop skills of its staff and suppliers

Aldi UK and Ireland, part of the global supermarket chain with over 1,000 stores in the UK and Ireland alone, has recognised the value of BRCGS training for its network of suppliers. Aldi joins Waitrose in signing up to be an ambassador of the BRCGS Professional learning and development programme as part of its commitment to quality and safety.

BRCGS Professional is a global programme that develops the skills of those working in the food industry and enhances safety management practices. Aldi has a long-standing relationship with BRCGS and recognises the value of its suppliers being certified to BRCGS global standards as a way of reducing risk and managing supply chain assurance. It will now strengthen this relationship by recommending that its suppliers develop their technical teams by enrolling and completing the Professional programme, which covers the core skills and behaviours required the implement and get the full value from BRCGSS Standards. The pandemic has disrupted the audit regime, and Aldi has taken this step to supplement its supply chain assurance regime.
In order to demonstrate its own commitment to safety and the development of its own people, Aldi UK and Ireland will enrol its Quality Assurance team in the BRCGS Professions programme. Completion of these courses will grow the team’s existing skillset and enable them to apply these skills to their daily role, and in interactions with their suppliers, to further improve product safety and brand protection.

BRCGS is working with other leading retailers to establish a similar partnership. Training and staff development can be a key element in managing and mitigating compliance risk, as well as providing customers with additional assurance.
